Read-Copy-Update (RCU) is one of the most known lock-free synchronization mechanisms for a scalable multi-reader single-writer access to concurrent linked data structures. In this talk, we will revisit the existing mechanisms, such as RCU and hazard pointer, and take into account two main criteria of these architectures: the scalability of the performances, and the scalability of the memory consumption. Then, we move towards the mixing synchronization mechanism to allow concurrent write accesses to the structures. Such a hybrid mechanism will avoid the contention over the reference counter (RC). Attendee should benefit from this talk from the aspect of optimizing concurrency for Linux applications.
